Do you have dog problems? Or a problem dog? Do you have questions about a dog or puppy? Need personal help and advice? Well, you've found it!
C.A.L.L. is a free and confidential advice service from the People And Dogs Society offering all kinds of information about dogs and puppies. And you can contact an advisor by phone or email.
CALL began life as a telephone service and is still offered in that way. However the service has since expanded and with the addition of email we were able to open CALL to dog owners all around the world.
CALL is run entirely by volunteers and we expect to receive up to 8,000 questions from worried pet owners this year. Many of these are answered immediately and where we cannot help ourselves we put people in touch with a wide variety of dog-related professionals, services and organizations.
You can see how useful the service is to those who use it by using the scroll facility at the bottom of this page to read some of our thank you letters.
Callers are usually (but not always) dog owners, and popular topics are where to get a dog, behaviour or training problems, dealing with pet bereavement or legislation affecting dogs.
Sometimes operators get stranger requests - one operator was confused by a request for "Chinese Jacuzzi" puppies (later identified as a Shih Tzu) and another was asked to trace a safe hair dye for a dog going to a millennium party! Other callers, despite the reference to dogs in the charity's name, have asked for peacock's eggs or requested a volunteer to climb a tree to retrieve a lost racing pigeon!
Operators are carefully vetted before being added to the P.A.D.S. list. They come from all fields of dog ownership; between them they have a vast array of knowledge and can offer you guidelines to dealing with almost any problem. Where this is not possible, or if you need to be in touch with a specialist, we can help you to find one.
